The segment that I chose was University of Florida students that drive their cars to their classes or other obligations that require students to park on campus.

The three people that I interviewed were students of the University of Florida. All of them drive to campus fo rather classes. They all complain about the lack of parking on campus. I told them about my service and they said that they thought it was a good idea but were curious to if it would actually work. All three of my interviewers ask if it was possible to be able to have valet for every building because of the amount of people that are on campus. One of them specifically said "the idea sounds good on paper but the amount of money and employees that it would take seems impossible" which I responded with it will be a hard service to get up and running but if done properly it will allow for a more easier transportation method to and from classes.

All three of my interviewers have the same problem of finding parking and even then having to walk to their class. They also share the same problem of having to drive earlier than their class time because of the time that is going to spent trying to find parking. All of these needs would be met if this service was to start because of the system that I have explained before.

What was interesting about my interviewers is that they all are sometimes forced to do the same solution to this problem which is park extremely far away in order to ensure a parking space and then walk or take the bus to their class, one of them has a bike set up in the lot that he parks at so that he can bike from the parking lot to the class. Even though they are finding parking spaces they are not finding them anywhere near their desired location which causes more loss of time.

What I learned from this research is that most students know how difficult it is to find parking near their classes and have decided to drive to campus way earlier than their class so that they can find a parking spot and then take the bus or their bike to where they need to go. This is a viable solution to the problem but it still requires the students to drive to campus earlier than they need to and still have to waste time finding a parking spot and traveling to class. In conclusion I believe that the awareness of a need for change in parking is very relevant and with this service that would be provided would go well because many students have the same problem and same solution to that problem which means the market is there and there is a need for a better solution.

  1. Hey Alex,

This was very well put together and I feel as though you covered a lot of ground during this assignment. Interviewing students was a good move considering they would make up a major portion of your customer base, and it was good that you were able to find similar issues and understand their mindset in order to confirm that they had the need that you could fix with yur service.

  2. Hi Alex!

I agree with your consumer behavior analysis findings. Most off-campus students, if not all, that I know have to arrive to campus significantly earlier than their class time to ensure a spots. You definitely have a consumer market in that. I’d be interested in hearing about what UF faculty does to get a parking spot on campus and what their current solution is.
