25-A
There are few things before this opportunity can actually be implemented in the real world. One of those things would be for it to be accepted by the board of directors of the transportation management team at the University of Florida. Once they have accepted it there would then need to be funding for the service itself. New decals would have to be made for this service so that we would know who has purchased this service and who has not. Employees would then need to be hired and trained. Stations would need to be made near all major buildings for the employees. A programmer would need to be hired in order to make the application to track your car. After all of these things are done I believe that this product could actually be up and running smoothly. I interviewed three people and they all stated that they had the same need for an opportunity to create a better parking system. I asked the question of what should we be doing that we aren't planning on doing and they responded with it might be more efficient to have this valet system placed at all of the parking garages instead of buildings so that not as many employees would need to be hired because there are a lot of buildings on campus. I told them that this was not an option because it would eliminate the effectiveness of dropping off your car right where you need to be on campus.
Being forced to take the bus or having to park extremely far away is extremely annoying. Now that I have come up with this product my expectations of this product working is really high because I have thought of how this would make parking on campus so much easier and hassle free. What makes the most sense to me would be that this product is most likely less expensive than a parking garage because all it is doing is providing a service for a little extra cost for the decal. Although the transportation team would have to employ this valet employees in the long run it will cost less than continually building parking garages.
If I were to contact B2B I would have to think of an area that has the same need for parking like the University of Florida. This could be places such as New York where street parking is limited and parking garages are filled quickly. I could contact business in New York and provide this service to them which would have the same effect as it does on UF. The only change that would have to be made would I would most likely need to buy a parking garage so I could specifically have that parking garage for that business so that the valet service employees would not have to find a parking space for the business cars.
I interviewed three people and they said that this service would be hard to sell to business especially in New York. They said that it would be hard because the limited parking is not solved by your service. The interviewees said my service would work on campus because our campus already has sufficient parking it is just scattered across campus which is what this service will eliminate it will park the car for the students. For the B2B there is no parking garage for that specific business and therefore even if the service is implemented parking will still be scarce.
I learned that the interviewees were right about the scarcity of parking would not be eliminated by my service and that I would need a new approach when going to B2B. Place like New York that already have limited parking I would need to build or buy a parking garage is in order to have that parking garage for that business. This would require a lot more funds than how it is being applied to UF.
This new market does not seem as attractive as my existing market. Not only do I know that my existing market actually has a need for this service but I know that it is possible with the amount of parking garages on our campus. The reason that it would work here is because we have the space and the service is eliminated the hassle and time wasted of finding a space whereas in New York the need is for more parking which will not be provided by selling this service to B2B.

Hey Alex, you did a nice job with this assignment identifying your radically different new market and even going as far as to evaluate this market's capability for your service. I would suggest that in the future you use some headings to distinguish your different ideas as it makes your work a lot more concise and makes it a lot easier to read and analyze.
ReplyDeleteHey Alex,
ReplyDeleteYou did an all around great job at this and I can't wait to see how it develops over time. I think I agree with you when you say that the new market doesn't look as promising as your current one and I think it is wise to stick with what you have. And I believe you have to chose where you develop your service wisely in regards to it's usefulness and the clientele the location provides.
