26-A
1. I play a lot of video games in my day to day life so I think I will focus on my failures in that. I was playing this one game and I could not beat my friends record. The game was Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games. I tried over and over even when he was not playing with me anymore to try and beat his record. I then took a break from the game and played something else but felt no joy come out of the other game. I then went back to that game still frustrated and still could not beat it. After about two days I forgot about my frustration and played the game with a couple of my friends. I then shattered his record without even noticing it until the end when it gave me the congratulations. Its like after failing so many times I just accepted it and did not worry about failing again which then lead to my success.
2. I learned that if you fail giving up means quitting and quitting means that something got the best of you. If I quit at this game not only would I have let something silly like a video game control what I can and cannot play but it would subconsciously tell me to quit next time other things get rough. This is why I kept trying and trying until I succeeded.
3. I think I handled the failure well, I did not get upset about it all that it did was motivate me to keep trying again and again. I believe that for me failure is a great motivator and that whenever I fail I get back up and start trying again. Whatever I try comes very naturally to me and I become good quick so things that I do not pick up fast motivate me more as I fail more because it is a challenge for me.

Hey Alex, I found your story about trying to get better at video games very interesting read, as I am someone who also plays video games, especially competitive video games and the journey to get better can be pretty difficult. I liked your interpretation of the lesson you learned from this story, as quitting does mean that something did get the best of you and it leads you down this unproductive path of just giving up whenever something gets hard, which is not a good outlook as most things in life will be tough to deal with and giving up is not the solution. Using failure to motivate yourself is a great way to get through the tough obstacles of being an entrepreneur and in life in general, as it makes succeeding feel so much better.
ReplyDeleteHey Alex,
ReplyDeleteI completely understand the frustration that video games can cause as I've been an avid player for the past 12 years. A lot of people will see how angry or frustrated it can make people and wonder why we play it at all, as it's supposed to be fun and entertaining, they just don't get it. As for how you interpreted it, I think you did well. It's okay to take failure to heart and use it to motivate you in order to get past to your next goal.
Hi Alex!
ReplyDeleteI really liked how you brought up the more you fail the easier it is to succeed. I have had similar experiences where I tried so hard to win at something and kept failing until I took a break and came back to it with a new mindset. Instead of quitting its better to just take breaks and try again when you get frustrated.
