Elon Musk: Tesla, SpaceX, and the Quest for a Fantastic Future, Ashlee Vance

1. What surprised me the most about Elon Musk was how he was willing to go broke in order to make his company work like SpaceX and Tesla. Both of these investment opportunities were very risky but Musk stayed in and it turned out to be a good investment. I admire Musk's bravery and hard working attitude, even when he was not doing so well for himself he stayed working so that his dreams could come true. I did not and still do not like the way Musk presents himself as this hot shot playboy/space cowboy is how the book talks about him, although he is very successful and extremely smart I wish he could be more humble about it.

2. Elon Musk was able to overcome backlash and even almost being broke just to follow his dreams. He was fortunate enough to receive government funding for SpaceX and was able to keep Tesla alive but I enjoy reading about how these two creations were his babies and he would do anything to keep them.

3. It confused me that he would let something get in the way of his friendship and business partners. Musk was so determined to have PayPal called X.com that he didn't even listen and let one of his co-owners resign before finally accepting the name.

4. What do you think was the most important for you to do in order to get where you are today? What would you change if you could go back in time and start all over again.

5. I believe Musk opinion of hard work was to get stuff done and find a way to get it done no matter what others say. I agree with this opinion because it is important to follow your dreams especially if everyone is saying that you do not have what it takes, because then you can prove them wrong.

  1. Hey Alex, I thought your write about Elon Musk's biography was an interesting read, and Musk is a great example of what bravery and hard work is suppose to look like. I was not aware that he did not like the name of PayPal and I was even more surprised that he was so stubborn to the point to where one of his co-owners actually resigned from the company before he accepted the name. I liked the point of proving people wrong as a source of motivation, as that can work for a lot of people and to know that all that hard work pays off when you tell that person that doubted you that you made that idea into a successful business, is one of the best feelings in the world.

  2. Hey Alex,
You chose a very relevant topic as Elon Musk just announced his cybertruck series, not to mention that Elon Musk is one of the top innovative engineers of our time. The biography I wrote was about Steve Jobs, who almost seems like predecessor to Elon. Reading through your post, I agree on your interpretation on what Elon thinks on hard work. You need to find a way to finish what needs to be done no matter what anyone says, and no matter who gets in your way.

  3. Hi Alex,

I have never heard about Elon Musk’s life story before so I was really interested in reading your post. I have watched a few of his interviews and see what the book is saying about him being kind of arrogant. It does take hard work to do what he has accomplished though, so I admire his work ethic.
